Diaphragm (Phrenic) Pacing

Diaphragm or phrenic pacing provides support for patients whose respiration is chronically insufficient. They need ventilatory assistance, but their diaphragm, lungs, and phrenic nerves have some residual function. Typically, these patients have had high spinal cord injuries, a paralyzed diaphragm, central sleep apnea or other central neurological disorders.
